MEGA Boys Team Shines at the Frederick Flips Open

This past weekend, our Levels 3–6 athletes stepped onto the competition floor at the Frederick Flips Open, a meet that holds special meaning for our community. Hosted by MEGA alumnus and Olympian Frederick “Flips” Richard, the event brought together young gymnasts from across the region for a full day of spirited routines, proud moments, and joyful memories.

From start to finish, the atmosphere was electric—full of the kind of camaraderie that makes youth gymnastics so special. But what truly set this meet apart was the reminder, delivered directly from Fred himself, about what matters most in this sport.

During his speech, Fred shared the philosophy that guided him from his early days at MEGA to the Olympic stage:
“The secret to achieving a high level in gymnastics is simple—have fun.”

It’s a message that resonated deeply throughout the arena. And if you watched our athletes compete, you could see it in their expressions, their confidence, and the way they supported one another between events.

Strong Performances Across All Levels

Our MEGA Levels 3–6 athletes brought home an impressive number of placements across vault, bars, beam, floor, and all-around. More importantly, they showcased:

  • Clean form and steady routines

  • Growing confidence under pressure

  • Strong teamwork and sportsmanship

  • Joy in every event

Whether it the first time competing a new skill in a meet, beating last meet’s scores, or a stuck landing, each athlete had a moment to be proud of.

A Full-Circle Moment for MEGA

Having an Olympian—and one of our own—host the meet made this competition extra meaningful. Many of our younger athletes look up to Frederick Richard not just for his achievements, but because he once trained on the very same equipment, in the same gym, with the same dreams.

Seeing Fred cheer on the next generation was inspiring for athletes and families alike.

A Meet to Remember

As the final scores rolled in and medals were placed around necks, one thing was clear: this weekend wasn’t only about placements. It was about creating an environment where athletes can grow, connect, and fall even more in love with the sport.

We’re incredibly proud of every gymnast who represented MEGA with confidence, kindness, and joy. Congratulations to our Levels 3–6 teams on a fantastic meet—and thank you, Frederick, for bringing your energy, wisdom, and MEGA pride back home.

Here’s to many more meets filled with smiles, progress, and fun. 💙🤸‍♀️
