Ian Lasic-Ellis: From MEGA Champion to Stanford Gymnastics Elite

Ian Lasic-Ellis built a reputation as one of the most exciting gymnasts of his generation — a trajectory that began with early success at Massachusetts Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA) and continued through elite national competition into a decorated collegiate career at Stanford University.

MEGA Beginnings: A Foundation in Excellence

Long before Stanford and NCAA titles, Ian was a standout gymnast training with MEGA in Massachusetts. In junior competition he consistently ranked at the top of regional and national meets, particularly on events like vault and parallel bars, where his power and technique shined through. He represented MEGA in major USA Gymnastics competitions, including the Winter Cup and Junior National Championships, competing alongside some of the best junior athletes in the country.

As early as the 2017 season, Ian was earning top finishes on vault and all-around placements for MEGA, showcasing the athleticism and competitive focus that would carry him into elite and collegiate ranks.

In addition to his results, Ian was selected to represent Team USA at international gymnastics events during his junior years — an honor that underscored his potential on the world stage.

Stanford Athletics: NCAA Success and Academic Achievement

After graduating high school in 2021, Ian brought his talents to Stanford University, where he joined the Cardinal men’s gymnastics team as a freshman in the 2021–22 season.

At Stanford, Ian quickly became a major contributor in all-around competition and consistently competed on multiple apparatus:

  • Two-time NCAA team national champion (2022, 2023) with Stanford — part of one of the top men’s gymnastics programs in the country.

  • MPSF team champion with Stanford in 2022 and 2023, reflecting the Cardinal’s dominance in conference competition.

  • Earned MPSF Gymnast of the Week distinction during the 2023 season.

  • Recognized on the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and as a CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete, highlighting his commitment in the classroom as well as on the mat.

Individually, he delivered strong performances across events including parallel bars, pommel horse, and floor exercise, with career-best scores logged at meets against high-caliber competition.

Ian’s impact extended beyond Stanford; he also competed internationally, including at FIG World Cup events in 2022, representing the United States on the apparatus circuit.

From MEGA Mat to Top Collegiate Podium

Ian’s story illustrates the powerful trajectory that a strong gymnastics foundation can provide. At MEGA he developed:

  • Technical precision and form

  • Body control through complex skills

  • Competitive resilience under pressure

Those attributes translated seamlessly to the collegiate arena, where he helped Stanford secure multiple national championships and earned recognition both athletically and academically.

As he moved from MEGA’s developmental programs into elite and NCAA competition, Ian became a role model for aspiring gymnasts showing how club success can lead to collegiate stardom — and beyond.

Legacy & Beyond

Ian’s journey continues to be one of growth and excellence — from his early club days in Massachusetts to competing for one of the nation’s elite collegiate programs. He embodies the discipline, athleticism, and intellectual curiosity that define MEGA alumni and Stanford student-athletes alike.
